Etsy fees in 2026: what you actually keep per sale

The three fees on every Etsy order, when Offsite Ads becomes mandatory, the add-ons that hide in the fine print, and how to read the effective rate before you set a price.

Etsy pricing advice usually stops at the headline number: 6.5% plus processing, about ten percent, price accordingly. That number is real but incomplete, and the gap between "about 10%" and what a specific order actually costs is where small shops lose their margin.

The three fees that hit every sale

The transaction fee is 6.5%, charged on the item price plus any shipping and gift wrap the buyer pays. Payment processing runs alongside it: 3% + $0.25 per order for US sellers on domestic sales, 4% + $0.25 when the buyer is abroad. And every unit sold renews its $0.20 listing. On a $20 item with $4 shipping, that stack comes to $2.73 — 11.4% of the order, not 6.5%.

Two details matter at the edges. The processing fee's fixed $0.25 hurts cheap items disproportionately: on a $5 sticker it alone is 5%. And the transaction fee does not shrink when you discount — Etsy charges it on what the buyer pays, but a coupon you fund still comes out of your side.

Offsite Ads: optional until it is not

When a sale is attributed to an Etsy advertisement placed on Google, Facebook or similar, the order pays an additional 15% — or 12% once trailing-year sales pass $10,000, after which participation is mandatory. The fee applies to the whole order including shipping, and stops at $100 per order. On a $24 order that 15% is $3.60; stacked on the core fees, the effective rate crosses 26%. On a $1,200 order the cap holds the fee to $100, which is worth knowing before you switch off ads on high-ticket listings.

The add-ons hiding in the fine print

Listing in one currency while your payment account settles in another triggers a 2.5% conversion fee on the order. Sellers in five countries pay a regulatory operating fee on item price plus shipping, and it moves: the UK rate went from 0.25% at launch to 0.32% in 2023, then to 0.48% on June 22, 2026. France sits at 0.47%, Italy 0.32%, Spain 0.40%, Turkey 1.10%; the US and Canada are not on the list. EU and UK sellers also pay VAT on Etsy's fees themselves, which is an accounting item rather than a per-order deduction.

Pricing from the effective rate

The number to price from is the effective rate — total fees divided by the order total for a realistic mix of domestic, international and ad-attributed orders. The Etsy fee calculator produces it per order, with Offsite Ads, conversion and the regulatory fee as toggles, so you can see each scenario's rate rather than averaging them into one blurry figure. Two habits keep it honest: run the cheapest and the most expensive item in your shop through it, since fixed fees flip the rate at the ends; and re-run it after any Etsy policy email, because the core rates are stable but the add-ons are where the changes land.

Sales tax stays outside all of this — Etsy collects and remits it, and it is not part of the fee base for US sellers. Your Payment account ledger remains the final word on what a specific order cost; the calculator is for deciding what to charge before the order exists.
