Where each fee comes from
- 1
Three fees hit every sale
The 6.5% transaction fee is charged on the item price plus shipping and gift wrap — Etsy's cut before you even see the money. Payment processing runs alongside it: 3% + $0.25 per order for US sellers on domestic sales, 4% + $0.25 when the buyer is abroad. And every unit sold renews its $0.20 listing.

Offsite Ads are conditional, then mandatory
If the customer found you through an Etsy external ad, the order pays 15% (or 12% once your trailing-year sales pass $10k, when participation stops being optional). There is a $100 per-order cap, which matters most on digital products and other high-ticket items.

The optional stack adds up quietly
Listing in USD but getting paid in another currency triggers the 2.5% conversion fee. Sellers in the UK, France, Italy, Spain and Turkey also pay a regulatory operating fee on item price plus shipping — the UK nearly doubled it, from 0.32% to 0.48%, on June 22, 2026.

What this tool leaves out
Sales tax is collected and remitted by Etsy, so it stays out of the fee base. Etsy Ads are pay-per-click, shipping labels vary by carrier, VAT on fees applies to EU and UK sellers, and membership plans (Plus, Pattern) are fixed monthly costs — none of these are per-order numbers.
Recent changes worth knowing
The core Etsy fee structure has been stable since the 2022 transaction fee increase; the moving parts are the add-ons.
UK regulatory fee: 0.32% → 0.48%
Etsy raised the regulatory operating fee for UK sellers by half, citing new local compliance requirements. It applies to every order, calculated on item price plus shipping and gift wrap.
Offsite Ads stays at 15% / 12%
15% for shops earning under $10,000 in the past 365 days (opt out until you cross the threshold), 12% and mandatory above it, capped at $100 per order in both brackets.
Questions
Why is my fee total higher here than on Etsy's example?
The published examples usually exclude the $0.20 listing renewal. Each sold unit renews its listing, so this calculator counts it — on a $24 order that alone moves the total by almost a percentage point.
Do I really pay 15% on top of the 6.5%?
Only when the sale is attributed to an Offsite Ad — an external Google, Facebook or similar placement. The fee applies to the whole order total, including shipping, and stops at $100. It stacks on top of every other fee, which is how an order can reach a 25-30% combined rate.
My total says 10-11% with no ads. Is that right?
Yes, for a plain US domestic order: 6.5% transaction plus about 3% processing plus the listing renewal lands right around 10-11% on typical order sizes. Lower-priced items skew higher because the fixed $0.25 processing fee and $0.20 listing weigh more.
When does the 2.5% currency conversion fee apply?
When your listing currency differs from your payout currency — for example listing in USD while your payment account settles in EUR. If a buyer pays in a different currency than your listing, Etsy converts at its exchange rate, but the 2.5% fee is about your listing-vs-payout setup.
Which countries charge the regulatory operating fee?
Etsy documents it for the UK (0.48% since June 22, 2026), France (0.47%), Italy (0.32%), Spain (0.40%) and Turkey (1.10%) — the US and Canada are not on the list. Etsy publishes a by-country breakdown, and the fee shows as its own line in your Payment account.
Does it count VAT or sales tax?
No. Sales tax collected by Etsy is not part of the fee base for US sellers, and this calculator works in pre-tax prices. EU and UK sellers do pay VAT on Etsy's fees themselves on top, which is a quarterly-accounting matter rather than a per-order deduction.
Rates & verification
Etsy publishes its fee schedule in the Fees & Payments Policy and the Seller Handbook; every rate in this calculator was cross-checked against the published figures on October 13, 2026, including the June 2026 UK regulatory-fee change.
Etsy blocks automated access to its policy pages, so the numbers here are corroborated across multiple independent sources rather than scraped; your Payment account remains the final word for your own shop.
